The story of Ken's
Shaman Symbol

First let me relate the exact moment when I was given this symbol for my shaman walk. I was in the Spirit World on only my fourth journey ever, so this was VERY soon after I had been called to begin performing journeys. In this Instance, I was with a Spirit called "Rains Again", who drew out the symbol you see above for me. I have made it to look like it was drawn in sand, but it was actually drawn in loose dirt. Here is an excerpt from the history of that fourth journey:

9/12/2004: "Rains Again, who was on my right, then drew a symbol in the dirt before me. It was an S, with two small dots, one within each bend of the letter. To the upper right (the helper quadrant) of the S was a rotated right-parentheses symbol that stretched from the east to the north point. I memorized this symbol, for I was certain it was being given to me as a symbol of Shamanic Power! After this message, I returned to the here and now. I have since checked my new symbol against ancient symbology called "Runes", used by the ancients as power symbols. My symbol is very close to the rune that stands for "Power of Will, Directing Power, Spine, Regeneration, the SHAMAN'S RUNE (my emphasis added)". There is therefore no doubt I have been given my own Shaman's symbol. How amazingly exciting!!

I have since come to realize that this symbol appears to represent an incomplete yin yang. The message at the time it was given to me was, without too much of a stretch, that I was still incomplete in my spiritual advancement, but was well enough on my way to be encouraged to go further. I have, and have learned so much since. Not sure the yin yang will ever be complete in this lifetime...for that would imply total and permanent enlightenment. And, as soon as one claims to be totally enlightened, one is not.

This image is actually a photograph of the symbol as painted by me on my shaman drum (the picture of the drum and the original symbol painting are in my photo collection on this site. I took the photo and added effects and colors to make it appear as it does. So this representation is done by my own hand, originally with a paint brush! It is now the symbol of Shamanic helper!!! :)
